Dear Neighbors:
As most folks on these list serves are likely aware, on November 3 I had the great honor of being elected to the Takoma Park City Council representing Ward One (which includes PEN, North Takoma, Hodges Heights, and much of the Old Town commercial area).
I appreciate all the support, advice and friendship I received during the campaign, and I am excited to now be taking on this important responsibility. It’s hard to imagine a more enjoyable challenge than working for the betterment of the amazing city I have called my home since 1992, and I am very grateful to have been given that opportunity.
My service will formally start when I am sworn in during tomorrow night’s City Council meeting, which begins at 7:30 PM (an event which of course is open to the public).
The idea of good government I subscribe to includes elected officials who are engaged with and accessible to those they are privileged to represent, and I am going to do all I can to live up to that concept.
That includes both working directly with individual residents and maintaining active involvement in community meetings and events, plus close collaboration with my City Council colleagues to address Ward One and broader city-wide issues. And of course an important model for me will be my predecessor Seth Grimes, who did an excellent job of representing us and keeping us all informed about municipal issues.
I hope you will feel free to be in touch about any local matters. My email is pakovar@gmail.com, and I am setting as a goal answering emails sent to me by Ward One residents within 24 hours.
I have gotten to know many Ward One neighbors over the years and during the recent election, and I hope to meet many more in the coming months. I look forward to joining with everyone from this part of the City in the effort to make sure Takoma Park continues to be a great place to live.
Peter Kovar
